My Latest Thing...

No, it’s not collecting cute knickknacks, antique shot glasses, or old patches. It’s taking photos—specifically, close-up and macro photography—of these things and more.

Origin story: I’ve always been a fan of photography, but never really had the money, time, or energy to dedicate to it. (Wait, there was that one class back in college that got canceled because not enough people signed up.) But the longer life continues in quarantine mode, the more “creative distractions” I need in my life. So after a couple weeks of “researching options,” I took the plunge. (With creativity, the danger is always that the decision making process with sap away any inspiration to do the thing at all! More on that later.)

The photography bug resulted from my current obsession with YouTube—which has basically become my substitute for TV. This sprang from another creative endeavor in the works: starting up a multimedia-based YouTube channel with a good friend who’s also a talented musician.

That is how inspiration begets more inspiration. (And why we creative people always find ourselves having started more personal projects than we’re able to complete.) One obsession leads to another. (Later, I will tell the story of how Ron and I became fast friends in the name of music and all things creative; and how collaborating with others is a great, fun way to expand one’s own sense of creativity.)

I plan to create a dedicated gallery on this website to my exploits in photography. If you enjoyed the short sampling above, sign up for the newsletter, and you’ll be the first to know when it’s here! Thanks…
